
Steve Ainsworth spent over 30 years with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Section, where he was responsible for investigating major crimes, including homicides and general death investigations. Over the course of his career, he has investigated more than 2,500 deaths of all causes and manners.
Ainsworth has instructed on crime scene investigations at the Colorado Coroners Association Conferences, as well as for several other organizations, including the Wyoming Coroners Association and the Indiana State Coroners Association. He also led in-service training for the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, the Colorado Sheriffs Training Institute, and the LEEPAC group, educating officers and trainees on how to investigate death, robbery, and assault cases.
Currently, Ainsworth serves as the Law Enforcement Liaison for Othram, a world-class DNA laboratory that specializes in forensic genetic genealogy to resolve unsolved murders, disappearances, and assist with identifications. In this role, he consults with law enforcement agencies, coroners, and medical examiners’ offices to assess unsolved violent crimes and unidentified human remains cases.
Ainsworth is a member of the Colorado Association of Homicide Investigators, the International Association of Homicide Investigators, and the State of Colorado Cold Case Homicide Review Team.
